Drawing Enterprise, 2025 - ongoing

A growing collection of portraits (pencil on A4 paper) that will be for sale only from Nick’s driveway for up to £10 each (depending on their difficulty rating - as decided by Nick).

Drawing Enterprise is a tribute to all the creative people that have influenced me over the years through drawing their portraits from photographs found online.

My foundation art teacher did say indirectly I wasn’t savvy enough for the advertising and marketing industry that I aspired to join and I think he was right.

I loved drawing as a child, I remember submitting a drawing of Steve McManaman to the Official Liverpool FC magazine and it getting published. That was a good day.

When I was about 9 years old, I tried selling drawings of computer game and comic book characters from a pleather portfolio from my driveway on a cul-de-sac. A few people took interest but they either didn’t have money, didn’t want to own one, or didn’t know who I was drawing.

Looking back it was my first attempt at being a professional artist without fully intending to be. I valued the drawings depending on how hard they were to draw and how good I thought they were, at prices I understood (£1 / £3.50 etc).

This is where Drawing Enterprise comes from.

For me, art is the bravest enterprise to enter into, it’s also the most enterprising one to be active in.

So I guess I’m drawing enterprise, or it’s my drawing enterprise. Either way that’s it.
